Woodbine Entertainment Group – Press Release
TORONTO, July 9 – Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) and Derby Games, the leading developer of online pari-mutuel horse racing games in North America, have partnered to bring Canadians new ways to enjoy the thrill and excitement of live horse racing, including through the popular Derby Jackpot mobile app.
New York-based Derby Games, which has established itself in the United States through its full complement of regulated online games, has introduced hundreds of thousands of new players to horse racing. The partnership with WEG represents the first time Derby Games is expanding its offering to players outside the U.S., through a multi-year partnership which will provide online horse racing games that feature WEG’s thoroughbred and standardbred live cards.
“Woodbine Entertainment Group is pleased to partner with Derby Games,” said Kevin Maharaj, Senior Manager of HPIbet & Simulcast Development. “We are constantly striving to provide new and innovative wagering opportunities. The platform has been very successful in the US, appealing to casual gamers that may be new to our great sport, where they can experience all the action and passion of racing in a truly unique and engaging social interface.”
Derby Jackpot, the company’s first game which launched in 2013, makes betting on and watching live horse races a fun, simple, and social experience available on mobile phones and computers. It brings the thrill of horse racing to the broader market of gamers with the chance to win real money on hundreds of horse races a day throughout the year.
“We’re thrilled to be taking our games to the Canadian market, where online wagering on horse racing has a unique position,” said Tom Hessert, CEO & co-founder, Derby Games. “The interest in expanding horse racing online is global and our entry into Canada provides a launching pad for continued expansion into new markets.”
Derby Games is expected to be launched in Ontario in the fall of 2015 and will operate through WEG’s Canadian licensing and approvals.
